MySpace: The Movie
Just for the hell of it, I thought I would also post David Lehre's widely received MySpace: The Movie. This was the first of David Lehre's films that I saw, and it served as an excellent gateway to the rest of his work. I'm not a big fan of MySpace, primarily because I think it's one of the worst sites on the net in terms of actual visual and functional design. Other sites like Facebook really demostrate that social networking can be done a lot better. And I think I'll just leave it at that. I don't need to get into the sorts of people that are on there, and the kinds of nonsense that transpires on MySpace. That's what this film is for. It parodies a number of cliches surrounding MySpace, and regardless of how familiar you are with the site, you're still bound to find it amusing. The film has been viewed by an estimated 20 million people, and has served as a platform for amateur low budget film making, which I am very much a proponent of. I feel that too many studios are producing very expensive mediocrity, so seeing a film maker like David Lehre is very refreshing to me.Labels: internet, short film
